As you may now be aware a new weight loss treatment called Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) will start being used by the NHS from 23 June.
** However – it won’t be offered in all GP practices or available straight away. **
This is not open for all and only people who meet certain medical conditions will be able to get it.
You must meet strict criteria for GPs to be able to prescribe them to you, so please carefully consider the information on the link below before contacting your practice.
In the criteria You Must Have:
• A BMI (Body Mass Index) over 40
• You must also have at least 4 out of these 5 conditions:
– Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
– Sleep Apnoea (Confirmed at a sleep clinic)
– Type 2 Diabetes
– Cardiovascular disease (Heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
– Hypercholesterolaemia (High Cholesterol)
If you do not have a BMI over 40 AND have at least four of the conditions listed, you do not meet the criteria for NHS GP Prescribing of the weight loss injection.
For those who do meet these conditions please be patient while the NHS rolls out this treatment safely and fairly.
